The builders had excavated the hole for the pond (see DSC_0279) . We were called in to complete the pond including lining the excavation with sand so that the rock did not puncture the liner. Setting the perimeter level and excavating the anchor trench, installing a protective fleece and pond liner, installing the property roof water drains, and auto top up should the level drop in summer. Install a circulation pump and marginal planting area so that the water is naturally cleansed by the plants to minimise algae growth. Though the pond was specified as an attenuation pond for the surface water drainage system and as an environmental pond, with the marginal planting filtering the water it would be clean enough to swim in, if you were so inclined and hardy enough to do so.
Watch Us In Action
The pond liner was 30m x 31m. It weighed approximately 1 Tonne.
The pond is part of an “Off Grid” barn conversion and acts both as an attenuation lagoon for the rainwater from the roof of the building and as an environmental pond.
We have added pumps to help circulate the water through the marginal area of the pond to improve the filtration of the water and minimise algae growth
The pond will take a couple of years to fully establish, but it already has tadpoles in it
